Private health insurance government reforms

The government’s new private health insurance reforms come into effect on 1 April 2019. There’s likely to be significant commentary around these reforms in the media.

Here’s a condensed version of what you need to know for now:

  • The reforms don’t come into effect until 1 April 2019, so you don’t need to do anything at the moment.
  • There will be some product changes but the good news for most rt health members is that these changes will be minimal.
  • These reforms come into effect at the same time as the annual rate increase, and this year’s average rate increase is the lowest it has been since 2011.
  • We’ll be in touch with all our members from January to let you know what you need to know, and if there’s anything you need to do.

If you have any questions in the interim, we’re available from Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5.00pm (AEST), on 1300 886 123.
